Road Trip!
I have the good fortune to have worked with some fine Egyptian colleagues who I now count as friends. We got together today for lunch about an hour's drive away. The importance of the sugar cane harvest was evident on the highway with loaded trucks heading one direction to the processing plants and empty trucks heading the opposite direction to pick up more cargo.
Village life at night isn't always so quiet and peaceful. Frankly, more often than not, the streets teem with people, honking cars, steaming food vendors, and loud music from the shops. But these fellows found a quiet corner to sit under an ancient sycamore tree. Almost every village house has one of these benches, called mastaba, outside the front door welcoming friends for conversation, day or night.
