The Last of April Rains

She waits for me, my lady Earth,
Smiles and waits and sighs;
I'll say her nay, and hide away,
Then take her by surprise.
Mary Mapes Dodge, American author of children's books (1831–1905), in "How the Rain Comes–April" (1874)

Finally, after a long day under a blanket of cloud, the skies opened and soaked the earth. Mom's irises stuck their tongues out to catch the drops.
