Under the Cover of Winter

And don’t think the garden loses its ecstasy in winter. It’s quiet, but the roots are down there riotous.

Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī, Persian Sufi mystic (1207-1273)

Looking out the window at the winter snow blowing, I was grateful to be ensconced in my little abode, snug as a bug in a rug, hanging pictures and clearing out some boxes from the den. January is certainly conducive to taking stock, tidying up and germinating seeds in one's soul.

  1. This image really 'struck a chord' for me. It immediately triggered a recollection from browsing through a book I have on Alfred Stieglitz.
    Take a look at this:

My source says it was taken in 1902 - maybe not published until '07 - but hey, who's quibbling - you've really reached back into history for your inspiration !
    Thank you !!

  2. The congruence across time and space aligns even more strongly because back in aught-2 or aught-7 my street had rail lines running down them. I remember them as a kid. They were removed relatively recently. It's an interesting story for a summertime cycle and blog post. Thank you!
