Pleasures of a Grass Carpet

To me a lush carpet of pine needles or spongy grass is more welcome than the most luxurious Persian rug.
Helen Keller, American educator (1880 – 1968)

After a series of very busy weekends, I experienced the peaceful pleasure of sinking my toes in a thick carpet of grass as Handsome and I spent the afternoon in the backyard, trying our best not to annoy Mrs. Robin who didn't want us anywhere near her nest and at least three hungry babes. I passed the afternoon watching her maneuvers to supply nourishment to the wide open mouths that seemed to jump out of the nest in demand for food. She truly epitomized the expression, "A mother's work is never done." For the most part, Handsome was content to lay sprawled out in the tree mulch behind my chair, both of us content to luxuriate in a relaxing afternoon.
